Hopefully some of you out there got the joke in this past weekend’s story. Heward’s Handy Haversack is one of those DnD items I am remiss to have a character without and that apparently even extends to Quartes in his own setting. I suppose it does raise some questions of canon as I’m not sure it makes sense for Quartes to have a backpack capable of carrying a near infinite number of things and then have him worry about things like having enough water if he decides to take one path or another while traversing the Halls of Falden. That said, I do like the idea that any pack that the old Landian carries suddenly becoming capable of carrying just about anything because he believes that they are meant to carry things.
I suppose we’ll chock it up to wanting to ever so often write something that is just a little bit funny (with some moments of sweet).
Looking further back, doing the first of what planned to be several stories about Quartes and Keto dealing with Fey was a good learning experience. There were scenes to that piece that I really enjoyed, especially the pair of them walking into town. However, I think a weakness of the piece is in the Fey itself. Rumbling roots and all is fun but I think making it just a little more unworldly, and be a bit more described, would benefit having the Fey be a bit more unnerving. Which, given that I want to do these Fey stories to work on that part of my setting, and my writing, I think is a win. We’ll see what I can come up with for the next Fey and make progress from there.
For this week, and for this month really what with it being the one year anniversary of the site, I think we’ll see some reflective stories with Keto and Quartes. I have learned a lot this past year, whether it’s the quality of my writing, the nature of my setting and its characters, or what I’m capable of. I want to give my duo a little bit of time to reflect before we roll into some new adventures with Fey, some time spent with other characters both old and new, and maybe even into something longer and larger atories…though whether that will be all on this site or saved for a novel I’m not quite sure yet.
I expect life to have me a bit busy this month and so I may go the next few weeks without a check-in post. If that’s the case, I just want to say thank you to all those who have spent time with me and my stories over the last year and certainly if you’ve got any thoughts please feel free to drop a comment below or email me at feywarrior@hotmail.com
Go forth and do good things,
Sean
