Well, we’re over a week into this site’s existence and I’ve managed get a second drop story out. It’s been a fun week tinkering around with the site, WordPress being not the most logical thing in the world, and settling into the excitement of having my stories our there for others to read. Behind the scenes, I’m trying to lay the groundwork for some expansions of the organization of the site ahead of what happens whens scrolling down a list of posts becomes tedious. On that front, if you have any feedback or recommendations, feel free to send them my way via feywarrior@hotmail.com.
Beyond that update, this week seems like a good time to talk about the style of content you can continue to expect here at Fey & Bard. With the last two posts, Around the Campfire and In a Lost Ruin, you’ve already gotten to see my favorite thing to write. What, I call a “Drop Story.”
Drop Stories are un-creatively called such because they drop right into whatever scene I’ve decided to write, and then tend to be only one scene long (You know, perfect blog length). I enjoy Drop Stories so much as when one has spent the last several years heavily world building, it’s nice to write stories in that world without having to retread all the questions of the setting that would usually need to be answered in short story or novel. I’ll admit that I’m hoping that you enjoy the bit of mystery this adds to the stories, and the slow drip of the world building each of things as they answer some of those mysteries. Now on detailing world building…
The next style of story post you can expect here is the Character Journal. Character Journals are just that, a piece written by the characters in the fictional world and therefore often exploring their thoughts or concerns as they got about their lives in Illithiust. It’s safe to say that the Bard is quite prolific in her writings, the Fey is less so. You can expect Character Journals to do two things: expand on the characters and be an in-setting excuse for a way to write about the peculiarities of Illithiust. I’m planning on releasing a Character Journal next week, and if you’re wondering just what makes these Landians are then you’re going to be in luck.
Long term, there will certainly be more than just Drops and Journals. The occasional odd project and fanfiction will intermix with the above as well as Short Stories and maybe some teases of a novel that might be in the works. In fact, the Soldier may soon be joining the Fey and Bard to expand our cast of characters with a Short Story of her own in the near future. Finally, the occasional article or thought piece may find it’s way here on those rare moments I feel the need to expound on something (Something being related to storytelling and world building of course).
I hope you’re all headed into a good week and thanks again for spending your time with my little fantasy realm.
Go forth and do good things,
Sean
