There's Power in Stories

Weekly Check-in – Missed Goals

Well, things did not go as I had hoped or planned last week.  While I did manage to get a few words done each day, work needed more of my time and between the long days and being a bit shot afterwards I lacked the ability to get myself motivated to work on Part 6.  Thankfully, I did finish a drop story and edited another with that edited story ending up being the post from this last Saturday.

I had someone ask me a while back if having the website created stress for me.  There is certainly some amount of added stress compared to not having the website and its posting schedule.  However, having some expectations and a schedule to work towards have resulted in an overall increase in the amount of writing I am doing.  So, while missing my intended goal of posting End of War Part 6 is disappointing, I do note that it does not deter me from continuing to write.  If anything, the fact that I missed a goal but had something in reserve to post is a tribute to how the the website has helped me write more and thus allowed me to have a backlog.

Setbacks always happen.  In the past, writing something that I had disappointments with, which is something any writer will encounter, would send me into a frustration spiral that would see me abandon writing for a time.  My current mentality of writing, supported by the goal of the website, instead means that my writing has resilience.  The stories continue and that is ultimately the important thing.

Obviously the intent this week is to see part 6 of End of War posted.  However, as I’ve made some improvements to the site, and planned others, something has occurred to me.  That idea is that it’s worth expanding the “hard lore” of Illithiust.  Which is to say to make some more posts that provided a more detailed background and setup for the various drop and short stories I have posted.  With that in mind, I’m working on a Lore Article to post next week.  My goal is to post at least one of those a month, helping to build up the details and rules of the setting, in an in-Illithiust way, as the regular tempo of stories continue.  So with that said, if any of the stories posted so far as created a burning question in your mind, send them over to feywarrior@hotmail.com and we’ll see if the minstrels and historians of Aus Argentum or Verken can provide you an answer.

Go forth and do good things,

Sean
