Twenty-six thousand, sixty-four words
Over a thousand words over my goal. Around a third of that was writing the later parts of Halls of Falden. The rest were some credit for editing, work on drop stories (both completed stories and some ideas jotted down), some fan fictions for Baldur’s Gate 3 and Skyrim (I keep a Skyrim character journal so when I periodically return I know what’s going on), some lore and planning articles for my new DnD campaign, and of course these check-in posts. While some of those pieces were frustrating at times, I found I enjoyed having multiple “irons in the fire”, as I could finish work on whatever was most pressing and then knock out a few more words on another article. I’ve heard that Stephen King always has multiple stories going, with them at different stages, which has helped to contribute to his prodigious output, though I doubt I’ll ever get to that level of productivity even if it was my full time job.
By the end it wasn’t so hard to find 800 or so words a day on average, I think there was only two days the whole month where I wrote less than 500 words. So, if nothing else it proved good perspective on what I can reasonably achieve when I strive a bit more. If anything, I find myself more confident that I might be able to keep content coming to the site, run this new DnD campaign, and pivot back to working on my novel which has gotten neglected for a couple of months. I’m still in the midst of outlining the novel but I’d like to think what that got going it’d be easy to knock out a few hundred words a day on it.
We’ll be sticking with some Keto and Quartes drop stories I think for a bit. I’ve got an idea for some themes to stick with to help me better define the monsters and creatures. However, with the holiday season in full swing, I may do some more festive stories. Certainly I’ve got one that’s ready to for this weekend. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go work on knocking a few words on another story. I do need to do some housekeeping on the site too…
Go forth and do good things,
Sean
