I haven’t written one of these in a while, more than a month and a half looking at it. I don’t mean to be silent, but I also just haven’t had a topic really come to mind and, as noted in other posts, other aspects of life have been keeping me busy. My words are getting done but it’s been mostly on stories which has seen me start a couple of longer pieces while still building up my backlog. Having several weeks worth of stories in the hopper in a nice feeling as life remains unpredictable, even if they’re not all my favorite.
I suppose the biggest impact in my life lately has been that I discovered and signed up for Libby. If you’re reading a site like mine then there’s a good chance that you’re shocked at my belated discovery, but if you haven’t Libby is an app that lets you pair your library card so you can check-out ebooks and audiobooks. It’s all free with your library card, and there are limitations on selection and number of copies. I recently finished the fourth book in a series and am waiting my turn for the fifth book. The wait is a bummer but also free is really nice. While there’s a few weekly podcasts I still listen to, audiobooks from Libby are becoming the go to on my commute or during lunch breaks. I like audiobooks, but they’re often rather expensive that this has been great for me.
The books I’ve been listening to have been from the Legends of the First Empire series by Michael J. Sullivan. I’ll post some thoughts on them down the line. The specific publisher of those audiobooks is a company called Graphic Audio. They’ve got a bit of a cheesy byline of “A movie in your mind,” but the production quality is pretty impressive: unique voice actors for each character, background sounds and music to match the scenes. They go that extra mile to remove the dialogue descriptions (he interrupted, she yelled, etc.) and have them instead play out via the voice acting. Highly recommend the company if they have made one for a book your interested in.
Not much else. I few extra subscribers over the last week, so thank you and welcome. Also a weird flood of views from addresses originating in China which feels like it’s probably a data center thing…hopefully not more bots scrapping my writings off the internet but not something I’d hold my breath on.
Not sure what will get posted this weekend, got a few stories in work right now. Could be an interesting confrontation for Quartes and Keto, could be catching up with Elhandriel , could be talking about horses. You’ll probably learn only a little while after I decide.
Go forth and do good things,
Sean
